INTRODUCTION

The above menioned aircrafts were part of a family of four engined piston powered, of which the KC-97G Stratotanker was the main variant.   Without entering too deeply into the history of all variants variants, a simplified summary would show :

- the operational life of the airliner variant may be considered as extinct by he early 1960s
- the cargo and early tankers variants (up to G)  were retired by 1963/1965
- the best KC-97G  airframes were converted into different roles and retired at a later date :
   - 1971 : C-97G  cargo transport
   - 1971 : C-97K  passenger transport
   - 1972 : HC97G  search & rescue
   - 1978 : KC97L  upgraded aerial tankers

A SIMILAR AIRCRAFT IN ATLANTIC AIR COMBAT™

A similar aircraft will play a key role in Atlantic Air Combat™ : the K097M40 Astrotanker  which will be one among several refueling tankers players will refuel from.   While the in-flight refueling function is only available from a "taker" point of view, the aircraft type is will be available two other playable variants :

1.

The Fåker 388-238  K097M40 AstroTanker   with underwing refueling pods making the aircraft a dual drogue & boom tanker.

2.

The Fåker 388-235  M097M30 AstroLifter   a military transport variant of the above

3.

The Fåker 388-100  AstroCruiser   an airliner iteration of the same, available for non-combat, non-military flights

THE AIRLINER VARIANT

Let's start with the more futile iteration of this aircraft.   While only 56 aircrafts were manufactured in the late 40s and early 50s, several Boeing Stratocruiser variants may be identified.   Variations are minor and essentially about passengers accommodations layout, engine propeller and ... the shape of windows.  As mentioned a Fåker 388-100 AstroCruiser will be imagined for the in-game Expedite Airways, and preliminary details of this fantasy design are incorporated in the tables :
