INTRODUCTION

The P6M Sea Master was USN flying boat stategic bomber which never entered service in 1960 with the US Navy.   After 2 XP6M1, 6 YP6M1 and 3 P6M2 production aircrafts (with 5 more under construction) the whole programme was cancelled in 1959 :

THE P6M2 "MASTER" in ATLANTIC AIR COMBAT

Now for flying boat lovers, let's imagine the Sea Master programme wasn't shelved, the five airframes on the assembly line completed, the pre-production aircrafts brought up to operational standards and the then 14 aircrafts re-christene P6M2A Master put into service as fast (0.9 Mach at sea level) USN strategic bombers.

SPECIFICATIONS

While there was no lack of structural differences between the prototypes, the pre-production and production aircrafts, their respective specifications are short noted below.   The AAC P6M2A remains close to the actual aircrafts.  Radar and engine specs to be defined later as "standard" AAC items of equipment.

Load Carrying - Quick Summary

The use of all carrying station may be in excess of MTOW - the effect will be an automatic reduction in fuel load.
When an aircraft is equipped with fuselage bomb bay(s), it is assumed fuselage pylons are absent.
In the quick summary below specifies whether it's a bomb bay or a pylon.
The number of external carrying stations is limited to 15 in AAC

AAC Calculated Range

Fuel max capacity (11200 US gal or 9326 gal) as collected from BuAer litterature + extra bomb bay fuel tank possible (2740 US gal)
YP6M1 combat ranges ("combat radius" is about 40% to 50% of that value, depending on load/altitude) from BuAer llitterature

P6M2   3500 Nm ferry range from varied sources
Fuel load as per AAC standards (7.6 lb/gal) unless stated otherwise
SFC is thus guesstimated on these elements (known ranges)

OFFENSIVE ARMAMENT

The offensive armament will differ from reality, as the P6M was essentially a nuclear bomber, with a secondary mining mission.  With AAC, the P6M2A Master is a bomber, carryihg either bombs or mines, with a secondary ASW/ASS capacity.

In the absence of bomb bay measurements for the type, dimensions and therefore fantasy loadouts have been based on a guess as to how the published loads could have been organized in the P6M rotary weapons bay - see Illustration.  Then a picture of the P6M bomb bay with seemingly two Mk91/Mk11 penetration nuclear bombs (147" each) would rather bring the length of the weapons bay to 25 feet rather than the 24 finally chosen.
