SHIPS AND NAVIES

Not all the nations involved in the fictional Atlantic War have a navy fleet and those who have do not necessarily commit them fully, only engaging part of their assets.  Then, as AAC™ is a flight and not a ship simulation game, we feel sorry for ship lovers as these are mere targets.  Aircraft carriers are  an exception as they are primarily seen as assets to fly from and to rather than targets to fly against, even if they are both naturally.

If naval assets rest on historical background, their number and variants are arbitrarily restricted to a limited amount of ship types and classes.  Ship visual representations will be standardized, with most AAC™ ship classes designs representing several others.  Classes naming loosely refers to their historical equivalent, but the meaning of these designations might be slightly different.

For example, if Colossus and Majestic  refers to aircraft carriers of reasonably similar designs, in Atlantic Air Combat™, Colossus  refers to a Colossus or Majectic carrier with a angled runway of 4°, Majestic refers to a Colossus or Majectic carriers with a angled runway of , and Centaur  refers to an AAC™ Colossus mainly acting as an helicopter carrier (CVH), the latter actually representing the real life Centaur used that way.

Another example are the Submarines.  In Atlantic Air Combat™, submarines will belong to one of the following categories :

Vintage submarines with AA guns (1)

Most WWII vintage submarines will be represented by AAC's Type VIII, loosely based on the Type VII and IX WWII U-boot; they welcome air threats with dense short range and some medium range AA artillery

Vintage submarines with AA guns (2) The WWII vintage Type XXI class will be operated by various AAC™ navies; these are faster moving, deeper diving, harder-to-detect targets which, when surfaced, offer dense short range AA artillery to be wary of

Late 1950s "small" submariness Part of the post-war vintage submarines will be represented by an AAC's Sutjeska design loosely based on a class of boats designed and built in the then Yugoslavia

Early 1960s "larger" submariness Larger non-Soviet submarines will be represented by an AAC's Baloa design submarine inspired by the modernized US Balao/Guppy and the French Narval/Daphne classes

Late 1950s / Early 1960s Soviet subs Soviet submarines will be represented by a specific design (AAC's P611) making them easier to identify when surfaced; the design will somehow refer to the various Soviet types of the time

Early ballistic missiles carrying sub Early ballistic missile carrying submarines will be represented by more or less matching designs, with the addition of a fantasy one; these SSG are valuable prize-earning targets

AAC™ ship classes are shown in bold, with those being represented shown in italic.
