INAS 550 - The Flying Fish (1959)

The oldest squadron in the Indian Navy, it acquired two Fireflies in 1954 before shifting to HT-2 basic training aircrafts.  The squadron was reequipped with Islanders in 1976 and later with HPT-32 in 1986

INAS 300 - The White Tigers (1960)

300 Squadron was commissioned in 1960 and equipped with Hawker Sea Hawk aircrafts.  the Indian Navy initially received 24 aicrafts (1961-1962) but incorporated more airframes from the Royal Navy and the German Navy, the last one in 1971

       

INAS 551 - The Phantoms (1959)

551 Squadron started as a Naval Jet Flight at Sulur in 1957 with 4 Vampires before being commissioned as INAS 551 in 1961.  Sea Hawks were accepted the following year with the purpose of type conversion and tactical/combat flight training

INAS 310 - The Cobras (1961)

310 Squadron was commissioned in 1961 and equipped with Alizé ASW aircrafts.  Its purpose was to perform ASW and SAR duties aboard INS Vikrant, the first Indian Navy aircraft carrier.  The Alizés were also used as attack aircrafts
