AAC AIRCRAFT ENGINES

Aircraft engines in Atlantic Air Combat™ are loosely based on the real power units which animated aircrafts of the time.  So, there is a certain level of artistic freedom in the aircrafts/engines associations.  Background information is available on this page.

LISTED AIRCRAFT ENGINES

Whatever the engine type, all have a unique identification (ID).  There are four main types of engines referred to in AAC.  Sub-variants do not necessarily imply a different behaviour but it some cases it does (vectored thrust jet engines) :

Mixed engines setups are possible in AAC, with Engine #1 refering to the main engine(s) and Engine #2 refering to the secondary engines.  Only three mixed setups are possible in AAC :

There are no coupled engines in AAC.  Such exist in real life, driving contra-rotating propellers.  Switching one half off stops one propeller while the other one continues to be driven by the other half.  In AAC however, such engines are considered as whole units.  So for afficionados, the "Double-Mamba" doesn't exist with AAC.

ENGINE POWER OUTPUT

In the below table, the power output of propeller driving engines is expressed in "hp", and in "lbf" for jet and rocket engines.  Then some propeller driving engines also provide residual thrust.  When so, the "Engine/2" field will show "Thrust>>".

Power settings

Jet engines may be equipped with afterburner offering extra thrust, commonly called "wet thrust".  Similarly some piston engines may have an "emergency" setting, usually by water or ethanol injection.  In Atlantic Air Combat™, both are handled in the same manner, without limitation (but for the amount of fuel available) - there is extra power available or there isn't.   By convention the following power settings are adopted in Atlantic Air Combat™ :
