INTRODUCTION

The Avro A683 Lancaster was a piston engined bomber made ignominiously famous during WWII by the RAF, and which served faithfullly for many years after the war under various iterations, including the A694 Lincoln, and the A696/A716 Shackleton .  More would be found with AAC™ on the WWII_A683_Lancaster (vintage) page, and on the RAF Squadrons pages, but in brief :

The LancaStar  in Atlantic Air Combat™

The presence in AAC™ of a design mimicking the British Lancaster (and variants) is due to the late use of Lancasters and Lincolns  bombers by Argentina and of its ASW derivative, the Shackleton, by both the Royal and the South African Air forces.   All AAC™ variants have similar performances, share the same bomb bay and therefore do not respect all original details.  The aircraft will be available with most their historical post-war operators.

Fuel Capacity

The A683 Lancaster fuel system consisted of six connected tanks in the wings for a total capacity of 2154 gal (9792 litres).  A 400 gal additional fuel tank could be added in the bomb bay.  As the type evolved toward the A694 Lincoln and A696 Shackleton, the fuel tankage increased, including tip tanks.  In AAC™, range(s) will be defined arbitrarily and will differ from what is shown here.

Defensive Armament

Historically, the Avro 683 Lancaster was equipped with up to four .303 (7.7mm) gun turrets.  Readers interrested to learn more on this subject are invited to visit  http://www.lancaster-archive.com/lanc_armament_sum.htm  or other historical websites.  Defensive equipement however evolved with time, and the below summary aims at setting the AAC details and cheats into perspective.  Gun IDs are those used in Atlantic Air Combat™.

Bomb Load

The Lancaster maximum bomb load was 14,000 lb, even if a few heavily modified aircrafts could carry the much heavier 22,000 lb Grand Slam.    Loadouts in Atlantic Air Combat™ will be based on theoretical  historic bomb loads.  But "...based on..." does not mean respectful.  As mentioned, all AAC™ variants will share the same bomb bay and carry up to 16,000 lb of bombs, mines, etc., including torpedoes and all will have the bulged bomb bay doors to cater for the 12,000 lb 12T10 mimicking the Tall Boy.

The LancaMar, mimicking the Lancaster used in maritime patrol, will usually carry an extra 400 gal fuel tank in the bomb bay.
