INTRODUCTION

In Atlantic Air Combat the "range" is based on the following two elements : a reference range and the alleged fuel quantity on board.

Reference Range in AAC

For each AAC aircraft, a notional range is retained as a fixed data, without taking altitude, drag of external loads etc. into account  So, if the typical range (on internal fuel) of an aircraft was known to be so many nautical miles, that value is retained once and for all for the AAC design mimicking that aircraft flying at its AAC cruise speed.

Actual AAC Range

Then, if a player makes unlimited use of maximum or extra power, the range will be shortened.  If the aircraft carries extra fuel tank, range is proportionally extended.  So an aircraft carrying 1000 gallon of fuel for an alleged range of 500 nm will see its theoretical range extended to 750 nm if it carries two 250 gal drop tanks.   The same principle applies if the aicraft is carrying less fuel on take off (to compensate extra payload) and naturally when the aircraft is refuled in flight.  Naturally, this simplistic linear/proportional approach doesn't match reality, but the matter is purposedly kept simple to handle.  For players not wishing to be bothered by range restriction, an "unlimited range" function is only a couple of clics away, even in the middle of a flight.

AAC's BB52J fantasy range is an average of the B52B/B52C figures : 0.189 + 0.194 + 0.166 + 0.188 = 0.737 ÷ 4 = 0.184
