The AIM-7 Sparrow Missile Family
- -

Introduction

Developped from 1947 after a US Navy initiative, the Sparrow missile was developped in a step-by-step process (Sparrow I, Sparrow II, Sparrow III) into a capable all-weather air-to-air missiles.

While the Sparrow I and Sparrow III briefly entered service with the US Navy, the AAM-N-6b (AIM-7E) which entered service in 1963 was the really operational variant of this missile.

With all other subsequent versions being developped beyond the AAC time scale (AIM-7F : 1975), the AIM-7E is thus the only variant of this missile taken into consideration here

The Sparrow in AAC

The Sparrow is essentially a US Navy missile, although it equips the USAF F-110C Spectre and, as a matter of fantasy, a couple of non-US aircrafts.
