This quick review of the Hurricane serials is based on the
data published with http://www.ukserials.com, www.worldmilitair.com, and www.k5083.mistral.co.uk
(a dedicated Hurricane website), It is worth noting that the latter doesn't mention several groups of serials,
possiby because the corresponding orders were cancelled. These blocks of serials are mentioned at the bottom of
the table together with several re-serialled airframes for which the original ones are not identified.
Sources either mention 100 or only 20 airframes produced in
Yugoslavia prior the war - the lower number is retained here. For the Hurricanes to be produced under license by
Avions Fairey in Belgium, it seems only two airframes got airborne, the other 78 lacking engines). It is worth
noting that Belgium intended to replace the 8×.303cal machine guns with 4×.50cal FN Browning - a step in the right
direction as far as fire power is concerned. All Belgian Hurricanes were destroyed by Luftwaffe bombardments in
the very early days of the invasion.
Then, part of the background information is missing with
numerous airframes being identified as "Hurricanes" only - assumptions are shown in dark red. See also :
